Belorado – My Eldorado

What a hot day. Got a sunburn and really felt those 22km. But I have figured out that walking alone, purely at my pace and rhythm really made it so much easier, and the pain is ok. I had my first squid cooked in it’s own ink today. Wonderful! Though it it is a Galician speciality I believe. And today I have just left Rioja behind and got to the region of Burgos. The landscape changed almost immediately, and the vineyards and olive tree gardens turned into harvested grain fields. Later in the day a wind came up, and it …

Out of the door. Line on the left. One cross each.

I could not stop thinking of this Monty Python quote all day 😂 The sun was without mercy, and the pain an omnipotent company. But I felt so alive on this walk. Today I had the pleasure of mostly walking alone, and I was able to really feel inside myself. I had a tough dream last night. After hearing all these stories along the way from women and men that passed by but left a piece of them behind. Paulines, the Belgian Lady, poking around in my soul, and making me aware of the fear of not being able to …

Nàjera

I am so happy I did that extra stop in Navarrete. It was a long walk in the sun, and I guess Jörg’s Jesus did not like me 😂 I will try to see a doctor about the foot. Little bit scared that if something is broke, it could cause me to give up. I have noticed that you can really learn to live with the pain it self, even though it does not make it easier. Today I saw a lot of animals watch the pilgrims pass by. I really would like to know what was going on inside …

The long and winding road to Navarrete

The pain in my left foot had reached a new level this morning. I started late had breakfast, walked a just a little bit through the city of Logroño, with all its little art installation spread through the town. But I noticed right away that instead of getting better, with all the Cremes and painkillers I got, it was the hardest start into the day so far. Leaving the city, I thought I was not even going to rave to make the halfway trip of only 16km today. But with everyone that walked by me and waved or gave me …

Logroño

I left Torres del Río when it was still pitch black, an the stars were lighting my way. The sun startet to rise behind me. I had breakfast a few km after Torres del Río, where a nice local men had setup a stand with hot coffee, orange juice and some fruit to get you started into the day. The hardest part of the way, so the toughest climbs, I did in the early morning hours. It was such a good decision to start early. When the sun came up, it came with all it’s might. About half way to …

Torres del Río

I walked to Los Arcos today, but kept the option open to continue on to Torres del Río, as hinter said the 28km from Los Arcos to Logroño we’re going to be tough. Also it is supposed to get really hot tomorrow, so I would prefer to cut a couple of km of the total. On the way we passed the wine Fountain! We’re you could just get wine from the fountain. And it wasn’t even that bad. A young dry but fruits red wine. Incredible. As I walked out of town, this woman from the Netherlands came up and …

Estella – Un pueblo bonito

I left around 7am this morning from an Albergue, that will definitely not make it in my top 10. I was so happy when we got to Puenta la Reina yesterday. I passed at least 6 Albergues, only to find that I had to leave town and go through this last very long and step climb to finally get there. So no way you would go back down to see the village. The dinner we had to preorder was food, but nothing more. It was all feather dry, but I spent a night talking to Ben from the Uk. Ben …

Puente la Reina

Leaving Pamplona in the rain. It kept raining for most of the journey. Had breakfast just outside of Pamplona. Ate the half Melon that the clerk in the local supermarket gave me. It turned quite muddy and some of the small roads were really flooded. I met Arn again on the highest point. And continued the next 15km with him. It was again a very hard part of the journey. When we finally got to the Puente la Reina, we had to continue to the end of the town, over the bridge and up a very steep and long ascend. …

Pamplona 100% corazón

Pamplona is beautiful and has so much to be discover… Even though I stayed in bed till almost 11am, and tried to take it slow, I ended up walking all over Pamplona once again. After a short Siesta, stores and most other places close between 1pm and 5pm in Spain, eating fresh bread Chorizo and Queso and having a cerveza in my room, I packed all the stuff I sorted out last night and brought it to the post office to send home. 3kg and 40 Euros lighter, I spent the rest of the day looking for a cheap replacement …

Tapas and Sangria

What a great night out with Hunter, my brother from another mother! What an awesome dude. We ran into each other on the way to Roncesvalles, he was pushing a baby stroller with his backpacks, and had done so all the way over the Pyrenees!!!! There are some really interesting stories behind his trip, and he, like myself, is searching for a spiritual connection from the inside out on this Camino. The stroller is part due to a torn meniscus, and in remembrance of a boy, who left this world way to early, at the age of ten. We both …
